Houston’s most important natural resource: each other.
Lend a hand! Volunteers are invited to care for Buffalo Bayou. Join together with others to help tend to native vegetation, pick up trash, and beautify the parks and trails along Houston’s most significant natural waterway.
Individual Workdays
Individuals ages 9 and up (and small groups of 10 or less) can join our Monthly Volunteer Day typically held on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 8:30 – 11:30am. View upcoming workdays here.
Individuals and small family/household groups are invited to volunteer Wednesday – Friday. View open time slots here.
Group Volunteering
Groups of 10 to 25 people are welcome to volunteer Wednesday – Friday and on select Saturdays from 8:30 – 11:30am. Contact BBP’s Volunteer Coordinator for scheduling and additional information at volunteer@buffalobayou.org or 713.752.0314 ext. 206.
Special Events
Volunteer opportunities are also available at special events throughout the year such as the Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta, Kids Day, and Market Square Bingo Nights.
Volunteer Spotlight: Earth Month
We’d like to thank all of the volunteers who generously gave their time and lent a hand to Buffalo Bayou Park during Earth Month! Throughout April, over 450 individuals as well as numerous corporate, school, and civic groups helped us maintain and protect the bayou’s unique and important ecology.

Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s 2023 Volunteer Program is generously supported by
To volunteer with BBP, please submit a waiver at least two business days before your volunteer date to ensure the requested day and time. Volunteers under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian provide consent. Children under the age of 9 are not eligible to volunteer.
- All volunteers must read and sign an online waiver no later than 48 hours before volunteering with Buffalo Bayou Partnership.
- Unchaperoned volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Youth ages 9 – 17 years are welcome with a chaperone 21 years or older. There must be one adult per ten youth present.
- Closed-toe shoes or boots are required.
- Volunteers must supply their own water, snacks, insect repellant, sunscreen, or medicine.
- Students, scouts, and others needing community service hours (non-court ordered) may be able to join scheduled groups. Email us for available dates.
We do everything we can to ensure the safety of park visitors, volunteers, and staff. Volunteers may use standard gardening and landscaping tools on which they will be trained. Tasks can be modified to accommodate all abilities. When working outdoors, there are always precautions to consider. Here are some helpful tips for a safe experience:
– Stay hydrated
– Take frequent breaks
– Wear proper clothing
– Prepare for the environment
– Monitor weather conditions
